Are T-TEC diesel tuning boxes safe?
Yes! Our tuning maps are designed to work within the parameters of the engine. Diesel engines are configured to continue to work under a wide range of conditions and qualities of fuel. By adjusting your engines performance to match the fuel and conditions in the UK, we can increase power with no risk to your engine. Unlike ECU remapping and multi-channel tuning systems (that plug into multiple points in the engine), the T-TEC tuning box still operates within your vehicles factory programmed safety parameters.
How do the T-TEC tuning boxes work?
Our tuning boxes work by intelligently changing the signal from the injection systems to the ECU depending on the loads and conditions of the engine at any point in time. This change of signal causes the ECU system to adjust various areas of the engine parameters to make it more efficient. This in turn improves the power, torque and fuel economy of the engine.
It is the accurate and superior tuning map settings that determine how much increase in power should be applied at any time, resulting in the most powerful yet smooth driving experience.
What affect do T-TEC tuning boxes have on fuel consumption?
As the tuning boxes increase the efficiency of the engine, you should see an improvement in fuel economy. However the amount of improved mpg depends on many factors including the engine condition and the driving style of the driver. Typical improvements are 10-15% however we have had many achieve up to 20%.
Why is there less fuel consumption when power is increased?
The T-TEC tuning box increases the power and torque characteristics of the engine. This means you can achieve the same style of driving with less rpm and less gear changes. Obviously less rpm and gear changes has a direct affect on your fuel economy resulting in an increase in mpg.
Will my vehicle smoke after installation of T-TEC tuning boxes?
Quite simply no :-) Only cars with already bad engine conditions could produce excess soot.
What affect do T-TEC tuning boxes have on top speed?
T-TEC tuning boxes were developed to increase and optimise power and torque characteristics so do not have much effect on top speed. Top speed is nevertheless increased in some vehicles. This lies in the region of 5 -15mph and depends on the vehicle condition.
Why don't the car manufacturers build the engines optimised from the start?
There are a few reasons for this. Manufacturers build cars for the worldwide market. In other countries the fuel used doesn't correspond to our quality standards. Continuous operation at extreme altitude and in extreme climates can also affect combustion. These are qualities and conditions which don't have to be taken into account within Europe. Furthermore the production tolerance can also play a role. The performance may have to be raised a little when the vehicle is on the testing stand after production, therefore these tolerances are necessary. However one key reason is simply to allow the manufacturers to release 'sport' or 'GT' type models. With these sport models, the manufacturers are just doing the same thing as our tuning boxes do (except directly within the ECU). This means they can produce faster, better fuel consumption cars without having any additional component costs. They then obviously charge a couple of grand extra for the privilege of having one! We say save yourself the money and use our tuning box instead.
Do T-TEC tuning boxes have an affect on the vehicle emission test ?
No, the vehicle emissions are not changed. Therefore there are no problems when having the vehicle MOT tested.
Do T-TEC tuning boxes work in automatic vehicles too?
Yes, there is no difference in the tuning boxes for manual or automatic gear boxes. Our tuning boxes will be compatible with both. As long as your car appears on our search application, it can be tuned.
How long does the installation take?
The T-TEC tuning box is a plug and play tuning box supplied with OEM connectors which makes fitting very quick. The installation time is typically between 10-30 minutes.
Can I install the tuning box myself?
Yes. T-TEC tuning boxes were developed so that the installation is as easy as possible. Full installation instuctions are of course included. However we do have a network of qualified installers for our tuning boxes across the UK. If you are in any doubt with the installation then please get in contact with your nearest installer.
I would like my tuning box installed for me, where is my nearest installer?
We have a very handy search facility on our website for you to look up your nearest installer.
Can my car be put back to its original state after installation of T-TEC tuning boxes?
Yes, in the unlikely event you want to go back to the cars original state, you can remove our tuning boxes in a matter of minutes and the car is returned to standard. The T-TEC tuning boxes for common rail diesel engines can be switched off using the supplied remote control, so no tuning is applied.
Does the T-TEC tuning box come with any warranty?
Yes, due to the superb German build quality of our tuning boxes, we can offer a 5 year warranty on the tuning box. If there is a component failure of any part of the system supplied, we will replace it under warranty.
Does the vehicle have a shorter lifetime after modification?
No, T-TEC tuning boxes only cause the ECU to adjust the systems within the manuafactures known tolerances of the engine. If there is an existing fault within the engine at the time of installation, having the tuning box fitted may highlight it.

How are T-TEC Diesel tuning boxes different from ECU Chip Tuning?
ECU Chip Tuning (remaps) is a very intrusive method of tuning. It over-writes the standard ECU settings which if done wrong can have disasterous and expensive consequences. In some instances an ECU remap can cause irreversable damage and can only be fixed with a new ECU unit. The T-TEC tuning box is completely independant from the ECU and does not override any of it's factory settings. By altering the information the ECU receives, it forces the ECU to adjust it's own systems within it's factory set safety settings. Simply turning off or removing the tuning box will revert the vehicle back to factory standard settings.
What do the Red and Green LED lights do?
The green LED only shows power, and should be on all the time your engine is on. The red LED is on when the T-TEC is applying tuning. NOTE: At idle, the red LED may not be lit as most vehicles do not use the re-tuning at tickover level. If you need to test the functionality of the tuning box, you may need a helper to apply the throttle while you check the LED lights. Depending on your engine and tuning settings, the LED may only light in certain rev ranges, or when the engine is under load.
